Yet another proven abuse of power by the Police
With news that the High Court has found the blanket stops & searches conducted by the police at Kingsnorth Climate Camp in 2008 to have been unlawful we have once again a proven case of the police acting in a manner far in excess of that permitted by Law.
And once again we are reminded of how reluctant our “elected representatives” appear to be to effectively tackle such abuses, and of the increasingly desperate need for some manner of “policing the police”.
Not weeks or months or years after the event, when the calling of them to account does little to alleviate the trauma of the victims of such abuses of power, but in “real time”… as such abuses occur.
Or is there truly no will to rein in the body that increasingly appears to regard itself as above or beyond that very Law it is supposed to uphold?
And if the police can no longer be trusted to act in a lawful manner; indeed if, as has been so frequently proven, the police themselves blatantly and without compunction exceed the powers granted them, then is it not time that we, the ordinary civilian population, should cast them aside? Disregard them as now unworthy of the trust and reliance we once bestowed upon them?
