No narrative needed. But a word or two of explanation…
The heavy-handedness and increasing abuses of the authority of their office by the police is nowhere more in evidence than in the suppression of dissent and legitimate protest. By now everyone should be familiar with the sheer thugishness of the police at events such as the G20 protests in London earlier this year, and at the Kingsnorth Climate Camp in Kent last year.
These were not isolated examples though. Its simply that they happened to get widespread media attention, whereas so many other similar examples and incidents don’t. Are these abuses at the command of some rogue senior police officer, or at the behest (albeit discrete) of those in political office?
But would life in Britain under any of the other established political parties have been any different? Probably not.
